The Quarantine Wedding 2020

Prior to our engagement that took place on 20th December 2019, as like every desi family, we had planned our big fat wedding with all the traditions, rituals and 5 ceremonies which was supposed to take place on 12th June 2020. We had already started all the preparations, wedding cards were distributed, and the wedding hall was booked in February 2020 itself.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 was getting worse but we were unaware that it would have such a huge impact on our dream wedding day. Soon the country went into an unexpected lock down with hotels, schools, restaurants, malls, etc. getting shut. As the days were passing, instead of being excited for the wedding, we were getting over stressed. All our plans were getting shattered along with the lock down extensions weekly. We spent so much time panicking and worrying about something that we would never be able to control. In April we took the most heartbreaking decision of postponing the wedding to an unpredictable day since we didn’t know till when this situation would prevail.

However, in May 2020 the tables were turned when we decided to turn this negative situation into a positive one by preponing the wedding back to the original date and making it the most unique and creative wedding called “THE QUARANTINE WEDDING 2020″. 

Our wedding day ended up being completely different than anything we had planned.

We restarted the preparations once again as the lock down timings were reduced giving us relief. We got our wedding dress and gold shopping done in less than a week! We did the majority of our shopping online including the furniture, crockery, decoration items, clothes and basic essentials.

PRECAUTIONS TAKEN DURING THE WEDDING:

The precautions were taken according to the UAE guidelines.

• The wedding took place at home.
• Only the immediate family members were present and no outsiders were invited.
• No handshakes and hugs were exchanged.
• Everybody wore masks.
• Disposable cutlery were used.
• Sanitizers were used frequently.
• Social distancing was maintained (excluding the family pictures)
• The whole process took less than 5 hours of the day.

It was definitely nothing like that we had ever imagined, but ended up being the most special day of our lives. What we realized by this wedding was that we were purely surrounded by the most loved ones of our life. It had no unwanted expenses, and absolutely no burden over both the families since it was quite an economical wedding.

We wanted to be an inspiration to others that it is not necessary to have a big fat wedding and that you can have the best wedding with the least expenses.
